Not Dead

Like the title says, I’m not dead, although this site pretty much is. Actually, I’ve moved, and merged with another blog. This guy, to be exact.

And so, Indolents.com was born. No, I don’t update any more regularly there, but hey, a man can dream.

As for this domain, I’ve got a couple ideas kicking around, which I may get to posting here in a matter of time. We’ll have to see.

I Lied

Okay, so I was busy and didn’t get a chance to update with my reviews on Metropolis. However, I’m about ten minutes away from leaving to watch two movies from the Soviet Union during the 20s. So when I finally do update my review, I’ll probably be talking about them too.

There’s also another big change this website is heading toward, but I can’t really talk about that yet. It shouldn’t be too much longer though, so all will be clear shortly enough. Stay tuned!

Metropolis

Yes, I’ve seen the movie, but I’ve been busy with assignments. I promised I’d write some comments on it, and I swear that I will, but for now I’ll say this:

Metropolis was flashy, but that’s about it. It’s really not that great of a film as far as plots go, which really, was kind of disappointing considering the fame the movie is accredited with.

I’ll post more later.

Special KKK

So, consider this an update to my mention of Film Studies. I just came back from class a couple hours ago and we discussed the movie The Birth of a Nation. Now, if you’ve never seen this movie before, I’ll try to explain how interesting it was.

First and foremost, the movie was cool to watch. I mean, it’s widely considered to be the world’s first blockbuster and despite being just shy of 3 hours long and silent (with a soundtrack, mind you), it’s a good movie. It’s plot is outright horrible, but that’s not the reason it’s fun to watch. D.W. Griffith, the man who directed the movie, was a smart guy. He knew how to use the camera really well and definitely knew how to manipulate the audience. But I’ll get back to that point. For now, I suggest you watch this movie, since it’s pretty neat. However, know this:

The movie is basically a KKK recruitment movie.

I kid you not, one of the final scenes in the movie is an army of KKK clansmen charging through town on horseback shooting up black men. Here’s the kicker: They’re the good guys. I’ll repeat that.

The Ku Klux Klan are the good guys in this movie.

The final few scenes of the movie are both horrible and hysterical at the same time. The really scary part about this movie is, like I said before, Griffith knows how to manipulate the audience. So despite us knowing all about racism and what-not, you still find yourself cheering the KKK on at the end. Weird, funny and scary all at the same time.

I suggest you watch this movie. It’s a good piece of history (it even has a reenaction Lincoln’s assassination. How cool is that?) but most of all, you can rightfully tell your friends that you’ve seen a movie that outright glorifies the KKK.

What a conversation topic, eh?

EDIT: Almost forgot to mention that next week, we’re watching Metropolis, which I am rather looking forward too. I’ll return with opinions on it then.

Uni!

Yes, university. I’m back once again, reporting from my dorm room eight stories above the city streets. The ambient sounds of the city are once again fresh in my ears as I stare out the window into the clear sky of the September air.

Okay, so the sky isn’t really that clear and the ambient sounds are kind of annoying, but that doesn’t mean that I don’t enjoy myself.

I moved in yesterday, and spent the rest of the day mostly unpacking. Today, I finished unpacking and went up to the administration office to complete my student loan form for it to be sent off. I was then told that because I didn’t have enough courses registered for the second semester, they wouldn’t complete the form. This tends to make one a little bitter after waiting in line for 45 minutes. So rather than scramble to get my courses picked, then hurry back before the office closed, I decided I’d just go back tomorrow.

Classes start tomorrow, so hopefully the line will be a little smaller, especially since my only class of the day is at 9:00 AM. I’m quite excited about my classes, especially Film Studies. I loved Film Studies in high school, so hopefully I don’t end up hating the course in university. And frankly, it’s better than English. I mean, I actually have an excuse to skip reading the book and go straight for the movie. How awesome is that?

My other courses this semester include two math courses, a computing science course and a physics course. Those, I’m not looking forward to as much, but they shouldn’t be too bad.

Then again, I could be completely wrong. We’ll have to see, won’t we?
